Our Visit to Spotlight Boutique

Nothing excites us more than a new shop opening in Decatur – well, apart from the opening of a new restaurant, the upcoming book festival, a good sale, local deals, etc. So we get excited a lot, apparently, and Monday was no different when we stopped by the new Spotlight Boutique located in The Artisan building next to Ted’s Montana Grill.

(Get ready to work out your mouse-scrolling finger because this is a long post with a lot of photos.)

The first thing that hits you when you walk in is how many fun, sparkly things are jammed packed into the shop – and I mean that in a good way. Sparse and simple Spotlight Boutique is not and I love it for that. Even the main light fixture (glowing in the photo below) is an ornate, Chihuly-esque pendant.

Lauren and I both made a beeline for the shoes when we walked in. As much as I hate to admit it, we’re not what you would call tall, so heels are our friend. And that makes Spotlight the friendliest place in the world to us. You won’t find any flats here. None of the heels in the shop are shorter than four inches.

These are our kind of shoes and look (below), ruby slippers!!

We spent some time exploring the jewelry displays in the middle of the store and both ended up buying the same metal chokers for $12 a pop.

Shiny jewelry? Check. Sky-high heels? Check. And the clothes? Fabulous! I made a mental note to come back here any time I need a party dress, a blouse for work or another pencil skirt (a wardrobe staple for me). Lauren loved these leather-ish, mesh shorts (below). They might look scary, but paired with a cream silk tank and black ankle boots, you’ll look like you just flew in from Stockholm.

Did I mention the sparkly, high heels? I did? Well, here are some more:

Here’s the same pair without my face plastered next to them (I’d wear them with black, skinny, cropped trousers and a white tissue v-neck):

I spy a color block maxi dress in the window. That’s two summer fashion trends in one!

Some more shoes for your viewing pleasure:

How sweet is this halter top/ballet skirt combo?

Not bad for less than 1,000 square feet, no? In fact it’s pretty darn good! The icing on the cake? Spotlight stays open until 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays so you can fit in some quality shopping time after your dinner at Ted’s before you head over to the Chocolate Bar two doors down for a drink or two.
