Wow – it is 5:40 and I just saw that the Georgia Center for the Book is hosting an author event not to be missed. Dana Greene, Dean Emerita of Emory University’s Oxford College has a new literary biography, Denise Levertov: A Poet’s Life and Greene will be at the Decatur Library at 7:15 p.m. tonight.
Non-fiction is not usually my cup of tea but as a Creative Writing student at Agnes Scott College, I got to meet Denise Levertov when she was headlining the annual Writer’s Festival. I want to go!
If tonight is too late to head out, consider attending the Jennifer Chiaverini event on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 7:15 instead. Chiaverini is the author of 16 very popular volumes in the Elm Creek Quilt series in addition to four books of quilt patterns inspired by those novels.
Chiaverini’s latest book in the series, The Giving Quilt, is described as “an artful novel that imagines the good that would come from practicing the holiday spirit every day.” One thing I learned from attending the AJC Decatur Book Festival’s is that you should attend an author event of someone you know and someone you have never heard of before. I can attest that I enjoyed those “unchartered territory” events immensely.
And, hey, it’s free! Quick – go now!
